How the Windows 10 20H1 Update Benefits Dental Practices

If your dental practice is using Windows 10 operating system (OS), you'll be excited to know that Microsoft is currently working on its new update, which is scheduled to be released around May 2020. Dubbed 20H1 (Vibranium), it's going to be the first of two major updates slated for 2020, and it comes with a collection of improvements that can have a positive impact on your practice. Here's what you can expect from the new update.

More Accessible

When Windows installs new updates, some are not installed automatically. You may end up having to dig for the updates you need using the Device Manager and manually select each update. With 20H1, all the optional updates that were not automatically installed will now appear on a new screen.

This new screen will show you a list of big feature updates, driver updates, and other non-security updates. After you update your computer to 20H1, you can access this screen by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View optional updates.

Additional reinstallation option: cloud

The new update comes with a handy feature that lets you reinstall Windows from the cloud, rather than installing it from a disc or your local system. This means that after installing an original copy of Windows 10 on your computer, you'll have the option of reinstalling it from the cloud instead of the local files on your network. The biggest advantage of this feature is that it allows you to reinstall Windows without having a physical copy of the OS.

Let's say you want to reset your PC and can't find your Windows installation disc. This option will let your IT staff or managed IT services provider (MSP) reinstall the same version, build, and edition of Windows that is currently installed on your machine, and the best part is it will download the most recent version of Windows 10 as well.

More secure sign-in options

With the increasing need for better security, 20H1 comes with a feature that lets you sign-in using a PIN, Hello Face, or fingerprint. This feature will protect you and your employees from cyberattacks by adding an extra layer of protection on each computer. This feature is perfect for deterring brute force attacks.

This feature extends to Safe Mode as well. When rebooting your computer in Safe Mode, you are no longer required to sign in with a password, but rather, you can use your Windows Hello PIN.

Ability to rename virtual desktops

If you and your employees love to multitask, you'll be happy to know that this latest update will allow you to rename your virtual desktops. This feature will allow you to organize multiple workspaces, making it easier for you to switch between different tasks.

Once the new update is installed, all you have to do is click on the header of each desktop and assign a unique name for each. Don't worry, the custom names will remain even after you restart your computer.

Updated eye controls

The new update will introduce new features to Eye Control, and the most significant one is the ability to perform drag-and-drop operations using your eyes. This feature also allows you to combine clicks and drags using the Shift and Ctrl modifier keys. The updated eye controls will help users with injuries or disabilities perform certain tasks faster and easier.

These are just some of the new and improved features you will find once Microsoft releases the official Windows 10 update around May 2020.
