The Software You Already Own Picks Half Your AI for You

Over the last two years the dental AI market sorted itself along distribution lines. VideaHealth powers the AI built into Dentrix ("Dentrix Detect AI"). Pearl is built into Eaglesoft's imaging and into Dentsply Sirona's DS Core. DEXIS ships its own AI inside DTX Studio. So before comparing features, look at what's already wired into the software you run — then decide whether a premium tool like Overjet, or a value tool like Denti.AI, earns its place on top.

HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE: Below shows the approximate cost of AI tools for dental offices. Click the category tabs at the top of this page (X-ray & Imaging AI, Voice & Clinical Notes, Front Office & Phones, Insurance & Billing) to see a full breakdown of each category and the last tab (Best Fit for Your Software) to see recommendations for your current setup.

X-ray & Imaging AI
~$49–$500+/mo per location

Flags caries, bone loss, calculus and more on the X-rays you already take, and turns findings into visuals patients understand. The most FDA-regulated category.

Voice & Clinical Notes
Free–$400/mo

Hands-free perio charting and AI-written clinical notes. The whole game is whether it writes directly into your chart or makes you copy-paste.

Front Office & Phones
~$200–$1,200/mo

AI receptionists that answer 24/7 and book straight into your schedule, plus call analytics that show which calls your team is missing.

Insurance & Billing
~$225–$825/mo or % of collections

Eligibility and full benefits breakdowns before the patient sits down; claims, posting and AR follow-up behind the scenes.

Five Things to Know Before Any Demo

1. "Integrates with your PMS" has four different meanings. Native (built into the software), authorized integration (writes data directly in), sync (reads a copy of your data), and copy-paste (an overlay). Every grid in this review labels which one a vendor offers, and it's the single most important question to pressure-test in a demo.

2. Most pricing is quote-only. Where a price is published we've marked it Published; street prices from reviews and user forums are marked Reported and should be confirmed with the vendor.

3. The big imaging AI vendors are becoming platforms. Overjet and Pearl now sell imaging + voice + insurance verification as suites. Consolidating with one can simplify vendors and earn bundle pricing... so, make sure you ask.

5. AI reads the same X-rays your insurer's AI reads. Overjet's engine also powers claim review for most of the ten largest dental payers. Documentation-quality AI findings increasingly matter on both sides of the claim.

Category 1

X-ray & Imaging AI

Where they cover the same ground: every tool below detects caries, bone loss and calculus on your existing radiographs, overlays the findings chairside, and gives you patient-friendly visuals that lift case acceptance.
Where they differ: FDA clearance depth, whether they're built into your imaging software or bolted on, analytics, and price.

Overjet
The only AI cleared to measure disease (mm bone loss, caries outlines), not just flag it. CBCT clearance (Dec 2025), its own imaging platform (IRIS), voice add-on. Premium, enterprise-leaning; also powers payer claim review.
Quote-only. ~$250–$500+/mo per location, larger deployments to ~$3,000/mo; 12-month commitment. Reported Integrates v15–23 Integrates DEXIS 9/10 v6+ v17–21.3 Not listed Yes
Pearl — Second Opinion
Most FDA clearances in the category (up to 18 findings per image; first cleared for both 2D and 3D). Built into Eaglesoft Advanced Imaging (Patterson's chosen AI) and Dentsply Sirona DS Core. Practice Intelligence adds the strongest findings-to-revenue analytics.
Quote-only. Second Opinion ~$299/mo per location + ~$1,500 setup; Practice Intelligence ~$549/mo. Reported Integrates Native Integrates Yes Yes Native Yes DS Core
VideaHealth
The engine behind Dentrix Detect AI (native in Dentrix & Ascend, sold by Henry Schein). Only FDA-cleared pediatric algorithm (ages 3+). Deepest DSO footprint (Aspen, Heartland). Added voice perio & notes in late 2025.
Quote-only; sold direct or as a Dentrix add-on. ~$79–$199/mo per chair figures circulate. Reported Native Integrates Integrates Yes Yes Yes Not listed Yes
DEXIS DTXassist / DEXassist
AI built into the imaging software itself — no extra vendor, no cloud sync. Up to 14 findings on 2D intraoral images, plus CBCT tooth ID and nerve tracing on the 3D side. No practice analytics layer.

Diagnocat
The CBCT specialist — full radiology-style 3D reports in 4–6 minutes and automatic DICOM-to-STL segmentation for surgical guides. New to the US (cleared late 2025); no US PMS integrations yet.
Quote-only in the US; international tiers ~€129/mo (2D) and ~€249/mo (3D, capped CBCT reports). Reported No No No Upload Upload No Upload Upload

QUICK TIP: Imaging tools other than DTXassist ingest images through a small installed service that syncs from your imaging database to the vendor's cloud; Diagnocat is manual/auto DICOM upload. "Upload" means it accepts the files but doesn't live inside that viewer. Compatibility lists per vendor and reseller pages, August 2026.

Category 2

Voice & Clinical Documentation AI

Where they cover the same ground: hands-free perio charting and AI-written clinical notes, so your hygienist doesn't need a second person calling out numbers.
Where they differ: whether the data lands directly in your chart or on your clipboard — and a major shift in 2025–26: the PMS vendors themselves (Henry Schein One, Curve, Planet DDS) built voice in natively, and both imaging AI giants bought or built voice products.

Tool & What Makes it Different Cost Structure Dentrix Eaglesoft Open Dental
Bola AI
The integration leader: voice perio, restorative charting and notes with authorized, real-time write-back into six PMSs. Distributed by both Henry Schein and Patterson. Working in ~20 minutes after install.

QUICK TIP: "Authorized" means the PMS maker formally sanctions the integration (Bola is an authorized partner of both Henry Schein One and Patterson). For anything marked Verify or Claimed, make write-back the first thing you test in a demo — on your own chart, not theirs.

Category 3

Front Office & Phone AI

Where they cover the same ground: every tool here catches the calls your front desk can't... answering or texting back 24/7 and booking patients into open slots.
Where they differ: voice agent vs. text agent, call analytics depth, whether it replaces your phone system, and how directly it writes into your schedule. This category consolidated fast: Weave bought TrueLark, and the incumbent platforms all released AI receptionists in 2026.

Tool & What Makes it Different Cost Structure Dentrix Eaglesoft Open Dental
Arini
Pure-play AI phone receptionist. Real-time schedule read/write documented through the official Dentrix API; deployment engineers for groups. Claims 68% booking conversion. Keeps your existing phone system.
Quote-only, tiered by interaction volume. Category runs ~$250–$1,200/mo per location. Reported Real-time Yes Yes
Weave AI Receptionist (+ TrueLark)
Weave owns the phone line itself, so AI + telephony + payments are one vendor. Early access is specifically for Dentrix, Eaglesoft and Open Dental, with 25% off through 2026. TrueLark powers best-in-class text-back booking.
Not published; core Weave bundle ~$400–$700/mo per location, AI Receptionist priced separately. Reported Early access Early access Early access

RevenueWell AI Receptionist

Verify "all major PMSs" claimed, yours not named — confirm

QUICK TIP: Watch for per-call or per-credit metering on top of the monthly fee. The cost structure could cause a busy office to double its bill. And test the AI on your own worst call type (insurance questions from an existing patient) before signing.

Category 4

Insurance Verification & Billing AI

Where they cover the same ground: everyone here chases the same two hours a day your team spends on payer portals and hold music — verifying eligibility and benefits before the patient arrives, then working claims and AR after.
Where they differ: pure software vs. AI-plus-humans service, and whether verified benefits land in your PMS fields or in a PDF.

Pearly
The patient-balance side: automated statement sequences, payment plans and membership billing with ledger-level, two-way PMS sync. Free pilot program.

Quote-only. Reported Verify Verify Verify
Write-back documented field-level write into the PMS
Yes / Sync / Bridge vendor-listed integration
Verify / PDF only / Maturing limited or unconfirmed — ask

QUICK TIP: The question that separates these tools in practice: "when you verify benefits... do the deductible, maximum and frequencies land in my PMS coverage fields, or in an attached PDF my team re-keys?"

The Best Formula for Your Software

Pick your practice management system and your imaging software. We'll show the combination (a top pick and an alternate for each category, with the reason why) that fights your setup the least.

Practice Management

Imaging Software

Recommended Formula — Dentrix + DEXIS / DTX Studio

X-ray & Imaging AI
VideaHealth (Dentrix Detect AI)Native
Videa is the AI engine Henry Schein builds into Dentrix — findings appear inside the software your team already uses, with no separate viewer, and it’s DEXIS-compatible.
Premium alternate: Overjet, if you want quantified mm bone-loss measurements and the strongest perio documentation. Budget option: Denti.AI Detect at a published $49/mo per location — real FDA clearances at 1/6th the premium price.

Recommended Formula — Dentrix + CS Imaging

X-ray & Imaging AI
VideaHealth (Dentrix Detect AI)Native
Native inside Dentrix, and Carestream is on Videa’s supported imaging list.
Premium alternate: Overjet, which formally supports CS Imaging v6+. Budget option: Denti.AI Detect at a published $49/mo per location — real FDA clearances at 1/6th the premium price.

Recommended Formula — Dentrix + Eaglesoft Imaging

X-ray & Imaging AI
Pearl Second OpinionIntegrates
Eaglesoft Imaging without Eaglesoft PMS is an unusual combo — Pearl is native to that imaging layer and also integrates with Dentrix.

Recommended Formula — Dentrix + Romexis

X-ray & Imaging AI
Pearl Second OpinionOnly major fit
Pearl is the only major AI vendor that publicly lists Planmeca Romexis compatibility — Overjet and VideaHealth don’t. It also integrates with Dentrix.
For CBCT: Diagnocat accepts Romexis DICOM exports and produces full radiology-style 3D reports — useful for implant/surgical work, but it has no US PMS integration. Budget option: Denti.AI Detect at a published $49/mo per location — real FDA clearances at 1/6th the premium price. (verify Romexis pickup first).

Recommended Formula — Dentrix + Sidexis 4

X-ray & Imaging AI
VideaHealth (Dentrix Detect AI)Native
Native in Dentrix, and Sidexis is on Videa’s supported list.
Alternate: Pearl — since Sept 2025 it’s embedded in Dentsply Sirona’s DS Core with automatic X-ray exchange, the deepest Sirona-side AI hookup available. Budget option: Denti.AI Detect at a published $49/mo per location — real FDA clearances at 1/6th the premium price.

Recommended formula — Eaglesoft + DEXIS / DTX Studio

X-ray & imaging AI
Pearl Second OpinionPatterson channel
Pearl is Patterson’s chosen AI for the Eaglesoft world and lists DEXIS among its 40+ supported imaging systems. And since you’re on the DEXIS/DTX platform: DTXassist is free for DTX Studio v3.4+ / DEXIS 10 users through May 31, 2026 — turn it on and evaluate it at zero cost.
Premium alternate: Overjet (supports Eaglesoft v15–23 and DEXIS 9/10). Budget option: Denti.AI Detect at a published $49/mo per location — real FDA clearances at 1/6th the premium price.

Recommended formula — Eaglesoft + Eaglesoft Imaging

X-ray & imaging AI
Pearl Second OpinionNative
This is the cleanest pairing in the whole market: Pearl is built directly into Eaglesoft Advanced Imaging (live since 2024) and sold through Patterson — one vendor relationship, findings in your existing imaging window.
Premium alternate: Overjet supports Eaglesoft Imaging v17–21.3. Budget option: Denti.AI Detect at a published $49/mo per location — real FDA clearances at 1/6th the premium price.

Recommended formula — Eaglesoft + Romexis

Premium alternate: Overjet lists Sidexis compatibility. Budget option: Denti.AI Detect at a published $49/mo per location — real FDA clearances at 1/6th the premium price.

Recommended formula — Open Dental + DEXIS / DTX Studio

X-ray & imaging AI
Overjet or PearlIntegrates
Open Dental doesn’t steer you toward any one vendor — both premium tools integrate with Open Dental and read DEXIS images. Pick on features: Overjet for quantified measurements, Pearl for the widest findings set and analytics. And since you’re on the DEXIS/DTX platform: DTXassist is free for DTX Studio v3.4+ / DEXIS 10 users through May 31, 2026 — turn it on and evaluate it at zero cost.
Budget option: Denti.AI Detect at a published $49/mo per location — real FDA clearances at 1/6th the premium price.

Premium alternate: Overjet lists Sidexis compatibility. Budget option: Denti.AI Detect at a published $49/mo per location — real FDA clearances at 1/6th the premium price.
Voice & clinical notes
Dentrix Voice / Ascend VoiceNative
Henry Schein One built voice notes and voice perio directly into the Dentrix Ascend chart (desktop Dentrix voice notes today, charting rolling out) — no third vendor, no install.
Alternate: Bola AI, the authorized third-party integration, if you’re on desktop Dentrix and want hands-free perio now. Budget: Denti.AI Voice Perio from a published $99/mo.
Front office & phones
Weave AI Receptionist — or Arini if you keep your phonesEarly access
Weave’s AI receptionist early access targets exactly Dentrix (with Dentrix, Eaglesoft and Open Dental first, 25% off through 2026) and replaces the phone system itself. If you’d rather keep your current phones, Arini is the strongest pure-play — with real-time Dentrix booking through the official API.
If you already run Dental Intelligence: its AI Receptionist add-on names Dentrix support and quotes balances/due dates in-call. For call analytics first: Peerlogic, published at $199–$699/mo. Transparent-price voice agent: Viva AI, published $349–$1,199/mo + credits.
Insurance & billing
Overjet Verification or DentalXChange Eligibility AIIntegrates
Both name Dentrix support. Overjet gives code-level detail (frequencies, downgrades, missing-tooth clauses) and bundles with its imaging suite; DentalXChange rides clearinghouse rails and just won the largest DSO deployment in the category. Note: Verrific’s Dentrix output is PDF-only, and Zuub’s Dentrix write-back is still maturing — ask pointed questions.
Outsource entirely: eAssist (published pricing) or Wisdom — both work directly inside your Dentrix.
Voice & clinical notes
Bola AIAuthorized
Patterson’s authorized voice partner since 2024 — perio, restorative and notes written into the Eaglesoft chart in real time, sold and supported through the Patterson channel.
Watch: Pearl Voice (April 2026) — if Pearl already runs your imaging AI, one vendor could cover both. Budget: Denti.AI Voice Perio from a published $99/mo.

ZuubWrite-back
Zuub is the only verification vendor with documented field-level write-back into Open Dental — eligibility dates, maximums, deductibles and benefit notes land in the actual coverage fields. Pair with Vyne Trellis, which has a formal Open Dental API partnership for claims.
Value: Verrific — published $299/mo software + $9.95 human-verified breakdowns. Outsource entirely: eAssist (published, from 2.5–3.5% of collections) or Wisdom.
Bundle note: Overjet and Pearl both sell imaging + voice + insurance verification as one suite. If two or more of the picks above land on the same vendor, ask for suite pricing before buying piecemeal.
